Medcare Express Urgent Care

waiting area soft pallete of yellows & greys were used to create a soothing environment

FX Medical Design created a clean, modern, state of the art medical practice that accommodates

the growing primary care practice, with a very busy Urgent Walk-in Care Unit.

All counters & floors provided antimicrobial surfaces.

In the waiting area we utilized a soft pallet of yellows and greys to create a soothing environment.

Project Challenges & FX Medical Design Solution

Dr. Parth Patel, MD built a new building to house his growing Urgent Care center in Newington, CT.

He approached FX Medical Design to solve how to create two separate patient care units, yet use only one large waiting room. He requested we design a modern, state of the art medical practice that would accommodate his growing primary care practices, as well as his Urgent Walk-in Care Unit.

FX Medical Design worked with Dr. Patel to design a multi-purpose Check-in/ out Area, Patient & Procedure Rooms, Lab & X-ray Rooms, Blood Draw, & Staff Conference Room that was separated from the Staff Lounge with large sliding pocket doors. This allowed the conference room to serve many purposes; from staff meeting room, or CEU training room, to events servicing food from the kitchen.

We envisioned a soothing silver gray pallet with stainless metal accents, while adding warmth by selecting golden maple wood panels. FX designed soffits to create visual cue's or way-finding to define specific areas.  To break up the rectilinear room, we specified arced bench seating then playfully juxtaposed grays & yellow antimicrobial Crypton textile on the seats & backs, to depart from the typical waiting room monotonous seating.

The Silestone Natural Quartz white counters with silver flecks added just enough bling to the check-in & out counters to add a touch of elegance. Creating a waiting area where patients feel relaxed, evokes a hotel hospitality atmosphere instead of a tense doctor's office.

FX Medical Design only specifies products that we have tested in many medical or dental practices. We selected two Luxury Vinyl Tiles from Tarkett for this project. They both had a unique design that appeared to look like travertine tiles, while being easy to maintain, and provided our clients with a commercial product warranty.

We selected Mannington's BioSpec Flooring with heat welded seams to provide the highest level sanitation in all of the exam & procedure rooms. This is a great option for high performance and low maintenance while still maintaining the antimicrobial technology.

The Medical Exam Chairs are by Midmark. To define the Primary from the Urgent Care, FX decided to specify a sky blue textile on the exam chairs for the Primary care side and an olive hue for the Urgent care side.

As far as paint, FX Medical Design selected Benjamin Moore's Aura collection for its Proprietary Color Lock® technology and ability to go in high-traffic areas. This product has outstanding durability and will stand up to repeated washing with soap and water with no color rub-off.  It provides great coverage and is mildew resistant, as well as contains Zero VOC's, so no odors or off-gassing will occur.

For the Blood Draw area, to create a separation from the main corridor, FX Medical Design specified a privacy cubicle curtain from Coral Textiles. The textile chosen was flame resistant, antibacterial/ microbial & mildew resistant.

With Covid-19, and the constant need to use products with bleach and harsh chemicals, the finishes FX Design has chosen can be wiped down between each patient without any negative effects to the finishes.
