Project Challenges & FX Design Approach

A custom builder contacted FX Design to join his team to become the creative force behind a new build plastic surgery center.

When Laura Bordeaux, ASID professional, met with Dr. Restifo for the first time, she noticed he favored an Italian Classical style.

Dr. Restifo had purchased a property to build his own Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Center in Orange, CT.

During meetings with the doctor, he explained that many plastic surgery procedures can be performed without requiring an overnight hospital stay.

This outpatient setting is referred to as a “surgicenter.” These new day surgery procedure facilities have become the choice for both patients & doctors.

The advantage is that they are more cost effective than hospitals and provide a much warmer & home-like environment for patients.

The challenge for the FX Medical Design team was to develop a medical practice with stringent hygiene & safety in mind,

yet create an interior that looked like a boutique hotel check in & lobby waiting area.

Now when patients enter the foyer, they are welcomed into a beautiful gold barrel vaulted ceiling with glistening onyx mosaic tile floors.

This leads them into a grand two-story waiting area with a large fireplace and cozy seating area.

Crystal chandeliers hang from the coffered ceiling creating luminescent glamour.

The intimate seating area in front of the fireplace was created by inserting a blue & gold Fleur-de-lis area rug into the center of the hardwood flooring.

This provided a seamless transition, eliminating any tripping hazards while softening the surroundings.

The waiting area is designed in a Classical Greco-Roman style with Doric fluted columns and raised wall panels.

FX Design selected furniture in a classic style that reflected a historic past yet has commercial grade, durable, & antimicrobial properties.

The design team finished the waiting room by adding soft swag-jabot draperies in warm gold hues.

Patients have easy access to beverage bar areas tucked away in alcoves on either side of a niche seating area with shell mosaic focal wall.

FX Medical Design specified OzoGrip for exam room floors for high traffic areas in this healthcare environment,

which eliminates the need for waxing, buffing, and stripping. The floor thickness contributes to added sound absorption.

The final result is spectacular; Surgical patients of Dr. Restifo can now relax in this sumptuous waiting room prior to procedures or exams,

without feeling like they are in a typical cold & clinical environment.
